Safari Pediatrics provides newborn circumcisions for infants up to 30 days after birth. To be eligible for the procedure, the newborn must have received a vitamin K injection at birth. No referral is required to schedule an appointment. Please note that newborn circumcision is not covered by Alberta Health and is a privately paid procedure.
Please contact our booking line at 403-955-1077 ext. 2 to book your appointment or to find out more.
Preparing for your appointment
Bring the following items to your appointment:
- Infant’s Tylenol drops
- Polysporin ointment (not cream)
- Extra diapers and clothing
- Formula (if not breastfeeding)
We recommend that you feed the infant before coming to your appointment. Please arrange childcare for your other children.
We ask that you arrive 15 minutes before your appointment for check-in. You will be given a Patient Demographic Form and circumcision consent to complete. You will also be provided with information regarding the procedure and the infant will be weighed and measured.
The method used in our clinic is the Mogen Technique. The circumcision itself will take 10-15 minutes. Your baby will be observed for 40-60 minutes after the procedure before you will be allowed to leave.
After your appointment
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the circumcision please contact our nurse at 403-955-1077 ext. 3.
